The Public Symposium consists of four segments (1 main component and 3 different sets of breakout sessions).
Welcome addresses and keynote speeches: learn about the importance of mental health and the Mental Capacity Act.
Part 1: find out more about the mental health issues that commonly afflict those in different age groups. You can choose to attend one out of four sessions: Children/Youth, Adults, Elderly and Mandarin.
Parts 2 and 3: The next two parts of the programme, titled “The Mental Capacity Act - Helping you, Safeguarding you” is brought to you by the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG). This segment will touch on three different topics of interest: 1) Planning for oneself, 2) Helping someone who lacks mental capacity and 3) The care-giver and the community.
Parts 2 and 3 consist of three breakout sessions each. In Part 2, you can learn about: a) Making decisions for someone who lacks mental capacity, b) How the Court can facilitate decision-making for a person who lacks mental capacity, or c) Care-giving tips when living with a loved one suffering from dementia. In Part 3, you can: a) Learn about financial planning for someone who lacks mental capacity, b) Discover the role of the community in helping and protecting people who are mentally vulnerable, or c) Find out how you can make a Lasting Power of Attorney to plan ahead.
