Each year, approximately 1500 to 2000 Singaporeans suffer
a heart attack. About 50% of them die outside the hospital
without getting medical help. When the heart stops, death
is virtually certain if no resuscitation is given within
the first 10 minutes. During this short period, the victim’s
life hangs on the quick response of bystanders.
If you are a bystander in this situation, would you know
what to do to keep the victim alive until expert help
arrives?
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a simple technique
that you can learn to restore and maintain breathing and
circulation in cardiac arrest victims.
Why not learn CPR so that one day, you may save a life?
This life may be that of a family member, an office colleague
or even a stranger. This is a personal invitation to you
to join the Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation training courses.
Organised as a community service by Singapore Medical Association
and Singapore Nurses Association and sponsored by Singapore
National Heart Association.
CPR
Courses
The Adult Heartsaver (AH) course is designed for those without
any medical background.
The Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) course is designed for
those with Health Professional and those with background
medical knowledge.
The Adult Heartsaver (AH) Course comprises the following
topics :-
- Basic Anatomy and Physiology.
- Risk Factors in Heart Attacks.
- Indication for CPR.
- Demonstration of CPR.
- Practical Session.
- Theory and Practical Tests.
- Attitude Survey.

The Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Course comprises

- Video programme on Basic Cardiac Life Support course
and endotracheal intubation.
- Lecture cum demonstration on Basic Cardiac Life Support.
- Lecture on Defibrillation (optional).
- Practical Session.
- Theory and Practical Tests.
- Attitude Survey.
