SMA ETHICS ESSAY AWARD 2003
Write an Essay, Win $1,000 Cash, on the following topic:

"Is Research Ethics a Hindrance or Catalyst
in Biomedical Research?"




About the Essay Competition


The SMA Ethics Essay Award is intended to encourage students in Singapore to research and review the important aspects of medical ethics.

The Award is open to two categories:
1) Non-Medical students
2) Medical students


Who can Participate?


Tertiary students studying in the institutes of higher learning in Singapore (University/ Polytechnics/ Junior colleges) are eligible for application.


Cash Award


The Award will be presented to the student who submits the best original unpublished essay in each category. The Award is in the form of a sum of S$1000/- each, and a plaque of memento.


Layout and Style


The essay must be submitted in English; of length between of the essay: 2,000 to 2,500 words. They must be typewritten on one side of A4 paper using double-line spacing. There should be a left-hand margin of 1.5 inches and right-hand margin of at least 0.5 inch.

The essay should be of single authorship, and complete with a list of references. Please refer to the webpage of the Singapore Medical Journal for information on the format of references that you should use in your essay: http://www.sma.org.sg/smj/instructions.pdf

The Panel of Judges reserves the right to withdraw the Award if none of the essays submitted reach a sufficient standard to merit the award. The SMA reserves the right to publish the winning essay in the Singapore Medical Journal.
