On Friday, 19 May 2017, the 57th Annual General Meeting for the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) was held at The Wembley, Penang.

SMA has always had a close relationship with MMA and I attended the MMA dinner as SMA's representative. The outgoing MMA president, Dr John Chew, had recently attended our SMA Annual Dinner on 6 May 2017 and it was good to see him again in Penang.

During the dinner, the newly appointed MMA president, Dr Ravindran R Naidu, gave his opening speech. The issues faced by MMA that he highlighted were similar to the challenges faced by practitioners in Singapore. These include ensuring new medical graduates' quality of care, supporting the professionalism of doctors, and regulating business practices and activities of third party organisations in Malaysia. During the event, MMA also launched their new mobile app which enables MMA members to log in and view their accumulated points gained from continuing medical education programmes.

I would like to thank MMA for the great evening of collegiality and networking, and wish the association all the best in upcoming endeavours.
