Q:

How do I register for your online modules?

A:
Browse Online modules (MCA, LPA and PWID).

If it is your first time registering for these courses:
Click on Course > Get This Course > Signup > Create Account.
Your account will be authenticated by SMA before you can access the module.

If it is NOT your first time registering for any of these courses:
Click on Course > Get This Course > Login

Q:

Will I get a certificate for completing the LPA accreditation module?

A:
No certificate will be issued. Your details will be sent to OPG after completion of the module, and OPG will send an email/letter to you.

Q:

How many CME points will be awarded for the online module?

A:
1 CME points will be awarded. You are required to apply for SMC Cat 3B using the e-certificate issued after completion of the module; or the letter/email issued by LPA (for LPA Accreditation module only).

My account has expired, what can I do?

A:
You may contact cme@sma.org.sg to reinstate your account.

Q:

I have passed an SMJ CME quiz. Why is the point not reflected in my account when I log in to the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) website?

A:

We will claim the points on your behalf after the deadline for each quiz. For example, if the deadline is 1 January, your claim will be added to your SMC account by 7 January.

If you still do not see your CME points reflected in your SMC account by then, please send your query to SMC at SMC_CME@spb.gov.sg.


Q:

I would like to take an SMJ CME quiz. How much does it cost?

A:

SMJ CME quizzes are complimentary for SMA members. For non-SMA members, SMJ quizzes are SGD 21.60 (inclusive of 8% GST) per monthly issue.


Q:

How many CME points can I get for passing one SMJ CME quiz?

A:

The passing mark for each quiz is 60%, and one CME point per quiz is awarded for successful candidates.


Q:

I cannot log in to do the SMJ CME quizzes. I have tried to reset my password but do not receive an email. What else can I do?

A:

If you are an existing SMA Member, please email membership@sma.org.sg or call 6223 1264 (Membership). If you are not yet an SMA Member, please email smj@sma.org.sg or call 6223 1264 (SMJ).

Does SMA have any preferred medical malpractice indemnity (MMI) providers that they partner with?

A:

Yes. the SMA Council has identified three Preferred MMI Partners:

What should I do if I wish to purchase medical malpractice indemnity?

A:

For Medical Protection Society, please visit https://www.medicalprotection.org/singapore/join/join-doctor to complete the online application form or request for a quote.

For Income, please download and complete the application and submit the completed form and cheque to the SMA office.

Q:

What are the modes of payment?

A:

Medical Protection Society (MPS)
For MPS membership application and renewal, payments can be made via cheque or bank transfer.

Please make cheque payable to THE MEDICAL PROTECTION SOCIETY LTD (please indicate your name & membership number on the underside of the cheque), and mail it to the SMA office.

Kindly email mps@sma.org.sg for details of the bank transfer.

 

Income
For Income application, payment is to be made via cheque, payable to NTUC INCOME. For Income renewals, payments can be made via Internet banking or AXS (please indicate your Policy Number when making payment).

 

Medefend
For Medefend, payment is made via credit card on the online portal. Please email Medefend directly at medefend.sg@marsh.com for bank transfer or cheque payment.


Q:

When will I receive the certificate of membership/insurance policy?

A:

For Medical Protection Society, the certificate of membership will be sent to you within 2 weeks upon successful payment.

 

For Income, the policy will be sent to you within 2 weeks upon successful payment.

 

For Medefend, policy documents will be uploaded automatically onto the online portal upon successful application.

I have changed my address. How do I update my details?

A:

For Medical Protection Society members, please email mps@sma.org.sg

Q:

When is the renewal of the membership?

A:

The SMA membership subscription will follow the calendar year so it will be due for renewal by every 1st January.

The SMA membership subscription will automatically be renewed for the next year. Renewal payment forms will be sent out to all SMA members, except for those who had signed up for auto-deduction.

All SMA members are encouraged to make payment for their membership renewal by 31st January of that year.


Q:

What are the different payment methods available?

A:

The membership fees can be paid via:

  1. Settle your membership subscriptions via our online payment platform; or
  2. Make payment via PayPal, Visa or MasterCard credit cards when you apply online; or
  3. Email your credit card details with the subscription renewal form to us at membership@sma.org.sg; or
  4. *Use the PayNow App: UEN No. S61SS0168E; or *Bank Transfer to DBS Account no: 001-063564-6 (Beneficiary Account name: Singapore Medical Association); or
  5. Send us a cheque by post, together with the subscription renewal form, to the SMA office; or
  6. For UOB-SMA Visa Platinum Card Holders only, send us an authorized form for automatic deduction of membership fee against the UOB-SMA Visa Platinum Card. Earn reward points when you choose to use this hassle-free method.

Q:

How long does it take for my membership application to be approved?

A:

The application process takes approximately 4-6 weeks from the date that the application form is submitted to the Membership Department. Incomplete or incorrectly filled application forms may cause delay.


Q:

Can SMA membership fees be income tax deductible?

A:

Subscription fee paid to professional body whereby the membership is just to facilitate the employee's access to professional updates, knowledge, and networking.

E.g. membership subscription fee paid to Singapore Institute of Accredited Tax Professionals (SIATP) and The Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), Singapore Medical Association (SMA), the Institute of Engineers Singapore (IES) and etc.

Taxable

An employee can claim the membership subscription as a deductible expense against his income when filing his income tax return.

Q:

How to purchase Fitness to Drive guide?

A:

The Fitness to Drive guidelines are currently being reviewed. Hardcopies are currently not available. SMA members can log in to download the current 2nd edition.

I am not receiving my SMA News mailings

A:

You may log in to the SMA portal under My Account to check your mailing address and subscription status. Please email membership@sma.org.sg if both statuses reflected in your account are correct.

SMA News is available online, you may view it online too.

What can I access with the member’s portal?

A:

You can access the following:

As part of efforts to be more environmentally conscious, we encourage readers to access the SMJ online at http://www.smj.org.sg. You can also subscribe to receive email alerts of our monthly published issues at http://www.smj.org.sg/

Q:

I am an SMA Member who opted to receive hard copies of the SMJ but have not received it this month

A:

Our monthly issues are usually published in the 3rd or 4th week of the month. Occasionally, there may be unforeseen delays in postal services.

If you still have not received your hard copy by the first week of the following month, please email smj@sma.org.sg

Q:

When can I apply for SMA Medical Student Assistance Fund (SMA-MSAF) bursary?

A:

Bursary applications start in July/August. The application period lasts approximately a month from the opening date.


Q:

Can I still apply for SMA-MSAF while holding other bursaries/scholarship award?

A:

Yes, students can still apply for SMA-MSAF Bursary while they are a recipient of other bursaries/scholarship award(s).

Kindly declare the name of the award/scholarship you have been awarded or have applied for along with the awarded amount while filling in the SMA-MSAF bursary application form under the segment “Other awards/ Financial Assistance”.


Q:

When will I know if my bursary application is successful and what is the bursary amount?

A:

Bursary application results are released in October. Successful recipients will be notified via email by the end of October each year. The bursary amount is set at $5000. The amount may be adjusted from time to time.


Q:

When can I expect to receive my bursary funds if I am successful for the bursary?

A:

Students awarded the SMA-MSAF bursary will be invited for a short Meet the Chairman Session before receiving their bursary fund via bank transfer within 2 weeks after the event.


Q:

If I am successful for the bursary, do I need to apply for the bursary again for the next academic year?

A:

SMA-MSAF bursary is tenable for up to the end of the academic year. If you wish to be considered for the bursary for the next academic year, you are required to submit an online application with a fresh set of supporting documents.

Are donations to SMA Charity Fund tax-deductible?

A:

Donations of $50 and above are eligible for a tax deduction.


Q:

Will I receive a tax deduction receipt for my donation?

A:

Tax deduction will be reflected in your IRAS tax statement for donations of $50 and above. SMACF will issue tax-deductible receipts upon request only.

Q:

What is the submission fee for an article in the SMJ?

A:

The one-time Submission Fee is SGD 100.00, payable upon submission of a manuscript to the SMJ. This is a non-refundable administrative fee, and payment of the fee does not guarantee acceptance for publication.

SMA Members in good standing are eligible for the waiver of the Submission Fee.

Q:

I am submitting a paper to the SMJ. My co-author is an SMA member, can the Submission Fee be waived?

A:

Yes, the Submission Fee can be waived if any of the co-authors is an SMA Member in good standing. Upon verification of membership and authorship, a fee waiver will be processed.


Q:

I paid for the SMJ Submission Fee via PayPal. Can I get a receipt?

A:

PayPal auto-generates an email of acknowledgment that is sent to the payer upon successful payment. If authors require proof of payment for claims or reimbursements, please email smj@sma.org.sg for a PayPal packing slip.
