SMA participation in MOH Healthcare Publicity Review Panel

The Ministry of Health (MOH) recently set up a Healthcare Publicity Review Panel to:

  • review policies and explanatory guidance on current publicity regulations in the Private Hospitals and Medical Clinics (PHMC) Act, and in future, the Healthcare Services Act (HCSA);
  • make recommendations on possible changes to regulatory policies; and
  • provide input on development and review of explanatory guidance to PHMC (Publicity) Regulations and in future, the HCSA (Publicity) Regulations

Three doctors have been appointed to represent SMA as members of the panel: Dr Wong Chiang Yin on the main panel, and Dr Charles Tan and Dr Desmond Wai on the review panel. This is with effect from 1 September 2018 to 31 August 2020. We wish them all the best in their new appointments.

Review of medical examination for drivers

SMA met with representatives from the Land Transport Authority and Traffic Police on 17 July 2018 to review the medical examination regime for driving licences and vocational driving licences. A consensus has been reached and alignment measures will be put in place going forward. Further information will be made available when details are finalised.

IRAS review of anaesthesiologists' income

The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) recently conducted a review of the income declared by some anaesthesiologists from their business operations. SMA has received feedback and concerns from the affected anaesthesiologists. We have sent a letter to IRAS on 21 August 2018 and scheduled a dialogue with them in September 2018. We will keep Members updated when more details are available.

Extension of fee waiver for LPA

The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) has extended the fee waiver to members of the public for the Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) Form 1 to 31 August 2020. This is to encourage more applications from the public.
